Welcome from our Headteacher

I am delighted that you are visiting our school website and want to know more about Westbury-on-Trym Church of England Academy. This may be because you are a prospective parent or carer and want to find out more about what our school can offer your child and your family. It may be that you already have a child in our school, or that you are one of our pupils and are exploring our website. Perhaps you are thinking of applying for a job in our school or looking for somewhere to complete voluntary work, linked to a change in career or direction. You might even have come across our website through exploring the internet for a range of other reasons.

For whatever reason you arrived at our website, we welcome you to Westbury-on-Trym Church of England Academy website and hope that it gives you a flavour of our very special school community.

At the moment we have about 400 children in our school and they are organised into 14 different classes and within 7 year group units, each one named after a local river. We believe that our Academy offers a very distinctive and Christian ethos with a clear vision for excellence, which is shared by all the staff who work here. We have a dedicated and talented group of Teachers, Teaching Assistants and Governors, who work relentlessly to deliver a high quality education to all the children here, within a caring and stimulating environment.

We are totally committed to getting to know children, as the very special and talented individuals that they are, so that we can best support their development and learning. We want all children to develop a love of learning and a curiosity about the world in which they live, alongside all the important ‘lifelong learning’ skills which will enable them to flourish. From their first day in our Academy, we want them to feel secure, safe and have a positive experience of all aspects of school life. When these elements underpin their daily experiences, then children can take risks in their learning and enjoy being challenged.

Our school motto is ‘Learning Together, Learning Forever’ and this commitment to working collaboratively and together to achieve the very best we can, is integral to our approach. This applies to staff and children. Children regularly have the opportunity to make decisions about aspects of school life and to share their wonderful ideas with us.

We have a large number of children who learn and play musical instruments, as well as take singing lessons. We also compete, with significant success, in a range of competitive sports events and chess competitions. All these clubs and experiences contribute to developing very ‘well rounded’ young people with a range of talents and good levels of self-confidence, gained through this variety of learning contexts.

We look forward to providing your child with an excellent and inspiring education and to working in partnership with you to enable him/her to achieve their very best, in all that they do here.
